X-46 “Jonathan Livingston” flew high and came 2nd
Professor Giorgio Diana and his amateur crew came second overall in Group A in the IMS Italian Championship 2006. The X-46 “Jonathan Livingston” was beaten by the Comet 51 S “Nur” sailed by a professional crew and helmed by Guido Morisco.

The fleet consisted of 47 yachts divided into group A and B according to the GPH; in each group there was a “racing” and “cruising” division depending on the boat’s characteristics and the crew status; professional or amateur.

Apart from the second place, Giorgio Diana could also carry

 


 


home the title as winner of the Cruising sub-Division in Group A as well as the special prize for the Owner’s drive.

Eleven races in all weather conditions
During the 13th IMS Italian Championship 11 races were sailed. The series started with three days in a 20 knots Mistral wind, followed by a softer thermal southerly wind and a series of w/l races. The final race was a 20 miles coastal course in the waters off Cagliari, on the south side of Sardinia.

To enter the IMS Italian Championship it is a condition that the participants have obtained good results in one or more races in Italy during the season.
