New X-43 Performance Cruiser with great speed potential

2 - 5 May

With X-Yachts’ Dan Petersen at the helm the X-43 had her debut on the racecourse at the Maior Cup in Kiel during the weekend 2-5 May. A total of six races were sailed from Friday to Sunday in winds from 5 to 35 knots and the X-43 named “Hoddox” placed 2nd in the final score.

The X-43 absolutely lived up to the expectations of the designers and engineers at X-Yachts Design office. They created this new 43ft as a performance cruiser, but without doubt her speed potential will add to her abilities and be appreciated by the family, who enjoys racing when the opportunity offers. The designers have achieved preserving the good and fast sailing characteristics of X-Yachts in a boat that is built with optimum comfort to satisfy the cruising family.

Dan Pedersen reported after sailing the Maior Race in Germany:

”We really had the possibility to try her out under various conditions. Some races were sailed with almost no wind and in other races we reach a speed of 16 to 17 knots, and still we felt that she sailed very comfortable.

The X-43 felt very direct on the rudder. The new developed rudder profile gives the boat an excellent rudder response. She is very easy to helm under varying weather condition and because of the good rudder response you feel that you are permanently in control of the situation. We had a good test sail and were very pleased with her manoeuvring abilities under all weather conditions.”

Competition came from both cruisers and racers entered in the IMS 1 Class. Victory and 1st place went to the Rodman 42 “Hispaniola”, a real carbon flat out IMS racing yacht, winner of Copa del Rey 2002. Second came the performance cruiser X-43 “Hoddox” followed by three other X-Yachts, the IMX 40 Extasy” by Thomas Brügge, forth the IMX 40 “Hanseatic Lloyd I” by Christian Plump and fifth the IMX 45 “Varuna” helmed by Jens Kellinghusen.

The X-43 “Hoddox” will sail her next race in the Frühjahrswoche in Flensburg, Germany from the 29th May to 1st June and will this time by helmed by the designer Niels Jeppesen himself. Later on she will sail on to Hamble in England in order to participate in this year’s Round the Island race and the BMW X-YACHTS GOLD CUP from the 16th to 19th July.
