In a totalof 40 boats, 9 X-Yachts were competing in two different classes, Racingand Family class Light winds and strong currentThis year consisted solely of light winds, so working the current playeda very important role in tactics. In these light conditions there was nomatch for the IMX-45 “Xipho” from the Wohrmann brothers, even not fromthe very light Melges 24, which was steered by Belgium hot shot MarkFlamand. In the first race “Xipho”, which was steered by the BelgiumX-Yachts dealer Eddy Verbinnen, and navigated by Mark Van de Wauwer, came in one full hour before the second boat, this being after only 2.5hours of racing. X-382 “Naixo” was leading the Family class by far tillthe last buoy, but then got into big problems with the strong currentand lost it all again. On the second day the wind conditions were slightly better and Xiphocould only build up a lead of half an hour over the second boat whencrossing through the finish line. Mobile pontoon barAs usual the mobile pontoon bar was a great success after bothraces. Saturday evening was great fun during the barbecue, whichwas followed by the splendid Dutch rock and roll group and a disco untilthe early morning hours.Eddy Verbinnen |
