The summer cruise aboard “minX” the new generation Xp 44 was captured by Jemima Fry (age 10). The family summer holiday encompassed some of the very best cruising locations on the south coast of England.
Today we had a brilliant sail up to Yarmouth, followed by an amazing meal at Salty’s.
We woke up at 5 in the morning to catch the ebb tide. It was blowing 22knots with big waves, we set off aiming to go to Dartmouth but it was too windy so we ended up going to Portland where we finally had a bacon butty and went wind surfing!
Storm bound in Portland.
At 6 in the morning we came out of Portland and watched the sunrise and went in shore and saw the red cliffs in Lyme Regis and went to Dartmouth. We saw three dolphins and they played in our bow. When we arrived we went paddle boarding and had a barbecue.
We motored from Dartmouth to Dittisham where we paddle boarded. Then we had a lobster.
Today we had a lovely sail to Fowey hunting for the red and white day mark (Daddy was happy as we were doing 7 knots boat speed in 6 knots of breeze) and saw 8 dolphins we then went shopping and had supper on board as all the good restaurants were already booked😢
Today we had a fun sail from Fowey to Helford River and had over 10 knots of boat speed with me at the helm 😋. We picked up a mooring buoy and had supper at the Ferry Boat Inn.
Today we paddle boarded to the Frenchman’s creek and the village, then we sailed over to Falmouth and I got us going 10.5 knots!!🤩 Then we moored along side another boat in Falmouth Haven Marina and went shopping and ate in a brilliant restaurant called The Hut.
We picked up a mooring buoy in St Mawes where we walked up to the castle. We had coffee and cake overlooking the harbour. There was a lot of wind forecast so we sailed up to Smugglers Cottage where we picked up a visitors buoy and had a fun evening paddle boarding, swimming followed by a BBQ.
We had a rest day and went up to Mylor and on the way we saw a seal, to get ready for our passage back East.
At 7:00 we headed to river Yealm, we had the spinnaker up so we went faster than expected so we had to wait for the water!!!On the way we saw dolphins and they played in our bow. In the evening we walked through the woods to the pub called the Ship!
Today we rowed to the village and explored, then we walked on the cliff top to Wembury Bay, we could see our boat from there. Then we arrived at the beach and found a cosy tea room. After that I did the passage plan to Salcombe, we motored there and got fish and chips!!😋
We woke up and went ashore to explore Salcombe. After buying provisions for the day we then spent the afternoon finally going to the beach with a bucket and spade and our windsurfer. After that I got a tattoo and we ate at Dick and Wills.😋
Today we set ourselves up with a delicious bacon sandwich. Then we set off from Salcombe to Brixham. We explored the town and saw beautiful gardens. Then we ate in Simply Fish’ and I had a brilliant fish cake.
We got up at 6:30 to go to Weymouth. On the way we saw dolphins 🐬 !!! When we arrived we went on an awesome 🤩 rib ride and then went to the beach 🏖.
Day 15 (the final day 😢)
We had a lie in this morning and left at 9:00, then did a massive hop from Weymouth to Hamble. On the way we saw the Red Arrows perform off Bournemouth!!!!!!😎 Then we had to get round Hurst by 3:00 before the tide turned, luckily we got there an hour early! We then arrived at our home port, Hamble Point in time to go and watch the Bursledon fireworks 🎆 , the perfect end to a perfect holiday on minX.
