X-332 “X-Zibit” Winner of Class II
The Finnish X-Yachts’ dealer, Jussi Mankki, participated in the Offshore Nationals in Finland with the company demo X-332 “X-Zibit”. The 2003 built yacht is well equipped for cruising, and carries a mainly cruising oriented wardrobe provided by Elvström Sobstad.
130 Nm offshore leg
The regatta took place in Hanko on the south coast of Finland in rather strong winds. The event lasted for five days and included various types of races. It began with a rather demanding 130 Nm offshore leg, heading south to the west coast of Estonia and back. This leg was sailed in heavy weather conditions. The northerly wind was topping over 30 knots, which made the reach fast and vital for some boats. Two boats lost their masts, while many others damaged their rigging and sails, being unable to complete the first race. Also beating back was too much for many boats and crews, as the conditions at night were rough.
X-362 winner of first race
X-Zibit did rather well, being third after the first race. The winner was an all new X-362 owned and skippered by Mr. Martti Malka.
X-332 X-Zibit takes the lead
The following day was a fleet race day with three starts. X-Zibit took the overall lead after winning each start. Friday offered a nice archipelago race of 26 Nm. Once again X-Zibit was dominating the class, finishing first again!
Now, with a clear lead it was rather easy, but still X-iting to face the last two fleet races on Saturday. Again, we won the first start. By this point our lead was so clear, that we decided not to participate in the last start. Instead we thought it would be polite not to interfere whilst a few other boats were still fighting for the silver medal.
Sailing X-Zibit at the Nationals was a thrill! The boat is extremely fast, leaving bigger and “faster” boats behind. Having a crew working so well together, and having chosen the right kind of wardrobe just made our day. Winning the Nationals is highly recommended, it makes you feel so good!
