Oure Students Take the Helm as Volunteers at the Gold Cup Festival
Young Energy Powering the Joy of Sailing
When the Gold Cup Festival kicks off this June, it won’t just be the boats and their crews drawing attention. Both on the water and ashore, a group of enthusiastic students from Oure will step up as volunteers, joining forces with X-Yachts’ own team to serve as the welcoming faces of the festival. This collaboration not only helps young people find their way into the sailing world but also strengthens the community that surrounds the sport.
Around 15 students have already signed up, with more ready to join if needed. The volunteers will assist with everything from welcoming guests and guiding them to their berths in the harbor to preparing the racecourse and handling various practical tasks onshore. For many, it’s not just about giving back to the sailing community — it’s an opportunity to gain hands-on experience, build networks, and deepen their understanding of the sport.
X-Yachts: Investing in the Future of Sailing
Each year, students from Oure are invited to visit X-Yachts’ headquarters in Haderslev. Most recently, 20 students toured the company in April.
At X-Yachts, this collaboration is seen as a natural way to support young people’s passion for sailing and ensure that the next generation has opportunities to get involved — both on the water and onshore.
“It’s inspiring to see the energy and enthusiasm the Oure students are already bringing to the festival. They were quick to sign up, eager to help, and ready to gain valuable experience alongside seasoned sailors,” says Jesper Henriksen, Head of Sailing at Oure.
Community and New Opportunities
For the students, volunteering is about more than just helping out — it’s about community. Many have sailed together before and shared daily life at school, and the festival gives them a chance to strengthen those bonds even further.
“We’re excited to be part of the festival and to experience a unique sailing community. We hope to contribute with positive energy and enthusiasm, and, together with everyone else, enjoy the festival as it unfolds in the best possibe way.” says Henrik Lykke, sailing student from Oure.
A Step Further into the Sailing World
Several of the young volunteers hope their involvement will open doors to future opportunities as crew members or assistants in the sailing community — a path X-Yachts is proud to support through this collaboration.
“By involving young people and giving them responsibility, we’re not just creating a better experience at the Gold Cup Festival – we’re building a stronger foundation for the future of sailing. There students are joining our X-Community, full of amazing people and exciting sailing opportunities,” says Kræn B. Nielsen, CEO of X-Yachts.
At X-Yachts, we are grateful for the students’ dedication and look forward to welcoming them back to Haderslev on June 6, when the Gold Cup Festival — presented by Raymarine — officially begins.
