2025 X-Yachts Aurum Cup
Racing, Community & Camaraderie in Sydney
The 2025 X-Yachts Aurum Cup brought a vibrant splash of racing energy to Sydney over the weekend of 20–21 June. Under brilliant blue skies and with a healthy dose of challenging wind conditions, the event showcased not just thrilling yacht racing — but also the spirit and camaraderie that defines the X-Yachts community.
Day One – Pittwater to Sydney
Friday, 20 June, saw the fleet gather for the North Sails Pittwater to Sydney passage race, kicking off from Barrenjoey Headland. A brisk westerly breeze pushed the fleet south along the coast, though the race was eventually shortened due to shifting winds.
Victors of the day were:
-
- Xanthus (X-55) – Winner on ORC
- Adela X (X-50) – Winner on PHS
Day Two – Back-to-Back Battles
Saturday delivered more sunshine and more tactical challenges. After a hearty Skippers Briefing and Crew Breakfast hosted at Middle Harbour Yacht Club, competitors headed out for two back-to-back races: the Club Marine Race One and the Musto Race Two.
Despite flukey and testing conditions, Toy Box 2 (Xp 44) delivered a masterclass in racing — taking top honours in both races on ORC and PHS and walking away with a bounty of prizes and well-earned praise.
And the Winner Is…
The overall winner of the 2025 X-Yachts Aurum Cup was XS Moment (Xp 44), skippered by Ray Hudson, who had only just returned from racing at the X-Yachts Gold Cup in Denmark. Ray’s reward? A luxurious week-long charter of an X-Yacht in the Greek Islands, generously donated by X-Yachting of Greece.
A Perfect Finish
The event concluded with a celebratory dinner at St Siandra at MHYC, where stories were shared, glasses were raised, and plans for next year were already underway.
Kevin Wallis, Australia & New Zealand Managing Director for X-Yachts, reflected:
The Regatta is now an annual event that brings together our X-Yacht community for fun, camaraderie, and a little competition.
