Some comments from the owners in the run up to the race;
- G. CouttsWe are very excited to be racing in the centennial Fastnet this year on “Orixa”, our X4.3. She is such an adaptable boat, last year we spent 2 glorious months cruising in Galicia in north west Spain and our 2 years of offshore racing culminates with the Fastnet. A great achievement for a fabulous boat.
- D. SmithI’m incredibly excited to be taking part in this year’s 100th anniversary Fastnet Race aboard “Simples”, our X-Yachts Xp 44. As the reigning JOG Class 1 Offshore Champions for 2024, our crew of ten has spent the past four years training and racing together, steadily refining our teamwork and learning how to extract the best performance from both ourselves and “Simples”. Each of us has completed at least one Fastnet before, with one crew member set to tackle his 13th. After finishing 14th out of 48 in IRC1 in 2021 and 29th out of 62 in 2019, we’re aiming to break into the top 10 of IRC1 this year. It’s a real privilege to compete in such a landmark edition of the race with a crew and yacht I trust completely.
Julien Renault from X-Yachts GB joined the Dutch XR 41 double-handed team, for a final sail trial before the race start, testing the new mainsail. Despite the light and variable northerlies, the XR was performing very well. Best of luck, and we hope for a fast and safe 7th Fastnet race for this very experienced duo.
