Statement Regarding the Xp 44 incident during the Rolex Middle Sea Race 2025
X-Yachts CEO Kræn Brinck Nielsen:
X-Yachts is aware of the incident involving an Xp 44 that suffered a mast loss shortly before the finish line of this year’s Rolex Middle Sea Race.
Since the incident, we have been in close contact with the owner and crew to offer our full support and to gather the necessary information to understand the cause of the failure that led to the incident.
The boat had undergone third-party repair following an earlier damage, and obviously the repair was not done properly. This is what we know from the owner of the boat, and also from our own investigation.
Furthermore, we are grateful that no one was injured.
All our boats are developed with focus on safety, engineering, and customer support, and with more than 130 Xp 44 yachts sailing worldwide, the Xp is a very good example of that.
Several Xp 44 have circumnavigated the globe and finished some of the world’s toughest regattas. A good example hereof is an US owned Xp 44 that in 2019 finished successfully in all the major 600 nm races (Fastnet, RMSR and Sydney-Hobart).
Any Xp owners who have questions are welcome to contact X-Yachts directly.
