So why the name? Because she has it by the bucket full, admired wherever she goes.
So why an Xc42? A perfect fit for three or four to sail in some luxury and comfort, pretty much regardless of the weather and with six up it just means a bit more of everything, but more of that later. Key elements for me were a big rig to give a fast cruising boat, but easily depowered, so a great ballast ratio was my top priority on the spreadsheet. A close second was the “socialability” factor, to cook and entertain as easily at sea ( no pot noodles and energy drinks for us), as on the pontoon.
She came home from Haderslev on her own keel looking after three of us into Rotterdam ( ‘ and why do I have to take my brand new pride and joy up the busiest port access river in Europe I wondered? ‘) To entertain friends for dinner as it turned out! Since then she’s spent summers up and down from the Solent to the West Country, the Channel Islands and often after a sojourn Round the Island, to satisfy the bucket list requirements of various friends - all taken in her long legged stride.
She is a stalwart member of the X-Yacht Owners squadron, often proving her worth as the catering hub of the fleet - canapés for forty for the pontoon party with an hours notice anyone? The posh cooker ( GN Espace ) means steak, new potatoes and roasted veg whilst beating up channel in a F6 was a, comparatively, positive challenge. You get the idea . . .
The comments from the fleet; “ never knowingly under provisioned “ and “ wouldn’t she float a bit higher with the removal of the wine ?”, and the contents of the dedicated gin, whisky and red wine lockers!
So, if she was a person how would you describe her? A lady with poise, a robust character, not easily ruffled and with very hospitable tendencies. Your challenge, should you choose to accept it. . . . To maintain her reputation.
