Tuesday 1st June 2021
The X-Yachts Solent Cup returned in 2021 and was blessed with blue skies and superb sailing conditions in the Solent. The Royal Southern Yacht Club expertly hosted the event as we have come to expect year after year – smoothly run racing, and relaxed fun shore side social.
- Anthony Esse - Baby X - Solent Cup Winner 2021“X Yachts GB excelled, yet again, putting on a fabulous, high quality weekend of sailing. For any X Yacht owner this is an absolute “must do” regatta. The camaraderie and bonhomie accompanied by some excellent sailing made this a truly memorable weekend . “
The “Family Class” proved popular with our owners, sporting the biggest fleet to date with some exciting racing throughout the entire fleet. A few special mentions for our owners;
Entirely Family Crewed
Maxian was one of the few entirely family crewed X-Yachts in the regatta - a super father and son effort!
Plucky Xc 38...
Particularly well sailed was Xc 38 Astrid, smallest X-Yacht in the family fleet, however was plucky enough to be mixing it with the larger X's in the Family class. In the popular pursuit race on Sunday, starting first they held off the faster X-Yachts for as long as they could, only for "Baby X" to overhaul them on the penultimate leg...
Double Handed
And also showing great husband & wife teamwork, and superb boat speed against her sisterships was Xc 42 Freya - the only double handed yacht racing at the event. We are delighted to report that Andrew & Karen are still talking - phew! 🙂
Furthest Travelled
And special mention to Barry with his new X4⁰, travelling all the way from Dover for this regatta - it was great to see you and your crew in the Solent.
Family Class Overall Winner, & Solent Cup 2021 Winner
And expertly sailed was Anthony Esse's X4³ "Baby X", helmed by Charlie Esse with straight wins to seal the "X-Yachts Solent Cup" title overall, and the highly coveted X-Yachts Stand-up Paddleboard, along with many other prizes from our generous sponsors!
The Sports Class had varied sizes of X-Yachts racing, from the imposing dark hulled X46 “xSabio”, down to the well sailed X-302 “Quickstep”.
X4⁶
"xSabio" generally sailed into the distance, however may have been feeling slightly under the weather on Sunday after enjoying a few too many "Lemsips" in the Hamble pubs the night before.... However, the owner was exceptionally proud of his crew, considering they have never raced together before! Great effort!
Sports Class Winner
X-34 "Juno" sailed very well despite being under new ownership since the start of the year. She claimed the Sports Class Overall Winner title, winning the B&G voucher for £1500, and many other useful items from our sponsors. Congratulations to the co-owners of this X-Yacht - I'm sure we will be seeing more of them in other regattas throughout 2021.
