Owner's Comments

“Boxcar XLV is my second Xc45. I initially purchased an Xc45 in 2012 but due to business constraints I was unable to commit the time to sailing that I had hoped. However having had this boat for a season I appreciated that the size, build quality & sailing characteristics were perfect for what I wanted. In 2015 with retirement in sight I took delivery of Boxcar XLV & spent the rest of that season & 2016 cruising on the south coast of England, south & east coast of Ireland & west coast of Scotland. Near the end of 2016 I spent a long weekend sailing to the St Kilda archipelago. Along with a couple of friends we left Craobh Haven (south of Oban) on Friday afternoon & picked up a mooring in Tobermory on Friday evening. Just before daylight the following day we left for St Kilda & arrived in Village Bay at Hirta about 8.00 pm (a distance of approximately 120 miles). On Sunday morning we had a trip ashore to explore the island then returning to the boat to head back after lunch to the Sound of Barra. We anchored at Eriskay (South Uist) for the evening where we went ashore for a long walk & visit to the Politician pub. On Monday morning we sailed south on a fast reach across the Minch & arrived back in Craobh marina in time to pack up the boat & drive back to Glasgow early on Monday evening. This long weekend trip covering approx 400 miles in varying weather conditions with a crew of 3 confirmed to me that the Xc45 was the ideal boat for cruising further afield with confidence & in comfort. In the summer of 2017 we set off from the Clyde to join the ARC in Gran Canaria with various stops in Ireland, south coast of England, Spain, Portugal, Madeira, Gomera & Tenerife on the way. We then sailed across the Atlantic in the 2017 ARC & spent a few months cruising the Windward & Leeward Islands in the Caribbean. At the start of May 2018 we left Antigua returning to west coast of Scotland via the Azores & Ireland. The Xc45 has proved to be a very seaworthy & well built boat capable of long haul cruising in confidence & comfort while still maintaining the sailing characteristics of an X-Yacht.”
