Designing Victory: North Sails and the XR 41

A collaboration built for performance — and proven in victory.

Launched in January 2025, the X-Yachts XR 41 “Formula X” quickly made waves on the international racing scene. Skippered by Jesper Radich and powered by North Sails, the team won every regatta they entered, culminating in a World Championship title at the 2025 ORC Worlds in Tallinn, Estonia.

The success was the result of an exceptional collaboration between X-Yachts, North Sails, Surge Projects, and C-Performance, blending advanced design tools, aerodynamic modeling, and real-world testing. Together, they created a boat that’s fun to sail, fast on the water, and unbeatable on the racecourse.

“It’s beyond comparison, what North Sails offers,” says X-Yachts CEO Kræn Nielsen. “This project was about teamwork and ambition — and it shows in the results.”

With the XR 41, X-Yachts has reconnected with its racing roots — building on a legacy that began over forty years ago. More than 25 XR 41s have already been sold, proving that performance and excitement are still at the heart of the X-DNA.
